Annebelle van Tongeren, our very own wardrobe mistress is a self-confessed handbag addict.
Having started her vast collection at the tender age of thirteen, she has bags from every decade of the last century, handbags permanently borrowed from her mother’s collection, from flea markets far and wide, from vintage stores in le Marais and Portobello Road and from websites too exorbitant to mention.
Annebelle has been a television stylist for twenty-two years, and has sent many of her beautiful bags to events from the Melbourne Cup to the Logies, the AFIs and more, on the arms of a broad based celebrity clientele that she has styled head to toe. Her book, Dress Like A Star, published by Random House, has many a wise word on choosing the right accessory to create the looks you want and to recognise and flatter your body shape by the simple fashion choices that are made every day.
Annebelle will be sharing her insider knowledge with us each month, telling us what bag to buy and why we should buy it, and how to wear it with confidence. Her mantra is, “To buy with love. Love that handbag. Love it and care for it and pass it on to our daughters who will learn the enduring love of a good bag from their mothers. That's all there is!”
